Customize Folder Colors and Icons in macOS 26 Tahoe

In macOS 26 Tahoe, Apple has made it much easier to personalize folders in Finder. Just Control-click a folder and choose Customize Folder. From there, you can pick a color and add an icon, or click the Emoji button to choose from the full emoji library.

A few quick notes: Folder customization doesn’t apply to macOS system folders like Applications, Library, System, or Users. The colors are tied to Finder tags (which you can adjust in Finder > Settings > Tags). And while these customizations may sync through iCloud Drive, they don’t always carry over through other cloud services or actions like archiving, since they rely on Finder metadata. For that reason, they’re best used for personal organization rather than shared team folders.
