Intel-Based Apps Will Stop Working in macOS 28

Yes, we know, we’re still on macOS 26. But this is worth flagging now.

Apple has announced that macOS 27 will be the last version to support Rosetta for most Intel-based apps. Starting in macOS 26.4, you may begin to see warnings when opening apps that rely on Rosetta, letting you know they won’t work in a future version of macOS.

Nothing is changing right away. These are just early reminders, and apps will continue working as expected for now. The actual cutoff likely won’t come until macOS 28, probably in late 2027 or 2028, so there’s plenty of time to plan ahead and find alternatives if needed.

If you’re curious which apps are affected, you can check by opening System Information (in Applications > Utilities), selecting Applications, and sorting by the Kind column to group Intel apps together. If you’d prefer something a bit more user-friendly, the free Silicon app from iMazing provides a cleaner view of the same information.
